Business Degrees

Business degrees are typically seen as a gateway to career advancement, particularly when one pairs an MBA with an alternate undergrad degree. Whereas undergraduate studies usually prepare an individual for a career in a specific sector or niche, an additional graduate degree in business helps him or her develop business acumen and leadership skills, which may be beneficial or mandatory when climbing the corporate ladder or running a business. In these cases, it’s arguably the most sought-after degree among job seekers and employers alike.

Who should study business degrees?

Those who attain business degrees learn about everything from finance to statistics, strategy, marketing, operations, resource management, and project management. Additional components, such as leadership training, communication, and people management, are often included as well.

A graduate degree in business may truly pay off for someone hoping to take a leadership role on his or her chosen career path in virtually any industry.  However, they’re not typically seen as a good focus for a bachelor’s degree program, simply because employers want someone who understands their industry, not just someone who understands business. For this reason, it's better to add an industry specialization such as Economics or Commerce, as the degree may not be a good fit for someone trying to get a foot in the door and start a career with no industry-specific experience. A business degree may also be unnecessary for someone who does not aspire to climb the corporate ladder.
